1st MARCH DEMONSTRATION: Tony Hull

    Dr. TONY HULL, D.C.A; B.A. (Hons); A.T.C; Tony studied at the Camberwell School of Arts & Crafts, London, receiving a B.A. (Hons 1st Class) followed by a post graduate degree at the University of London and then a Doctor of Creative Arts at the University of Wollongong. Tony has been a finalist and exhibitor in the NSW Parliament Plein Art Prize for the last five consecutive years.  In 2013 he was a semi-finalist in the Doug Moran National Portrait Prize.  Over his career Tony has won 26 different awards and prizes for his paintings.  Some highlights include, the Waverley Art Prize for Works on Paper 2011 and 2005; the Art Visions Prize 2002; the John Copes Prize for Representational Art 2000; and the James Kiwi Prize for Watercolour Painting 1995.  He has been an artist and teacher for nearly forty years and his work is held in many private and several corporate/public collections.  He has been a post-graduate examiner and supervisor for the University of Wollongong between 2002-2013 and an art prize judge for nine different competitions between 2002-2014. Artist Statement: The major part of my practice is painting with watercolours and oils.  Subject matter includes landscape, portraiture, studies of the human form and still life.  The landscapes are often completed on location “Plein Air”.  I enjoy being in the landscape and interpreting it ‘live’.  The challenge and compositional problems presented inspires and energises my studio work.
