The response to our request for helpers on Bump-In Day has been wonderful. Thank you all.  BUT….. we still need members to sit at the door for the exhibition. Four people are required each day, two from 10.00am to 2.00pm and the other two from 2.00pm to 6.00pm. You greet the visitors, collect the $2 entry, hand them a program and offer them the chance to buy a raffle ticket. You do not have to sell the paintings There is always a committee member present. EXHIBITION TIMETABLE  2017 Every year at this time we put out a call for members to participate, in which ever way they are able, to ensure smooth running of the Annual Exhibition at the Kiama Leagues Club. The response has always been wonderful! Holly is a modern expressionist painter from Wollongong. ” I paint as if I’m seeing things for the first time. I lose myself in my imagination and escape to a place where I feel free. On goes the paint, rich in colour, twisting and turning in all directions, wiping, pressing, stamping, layering, drawing, writing words and smudging them out.”     Demonstration begins at 1.00pm so please be seated before then and stay  for afternoon tea and a chat at the conclusion of the demonstration. MAY UPDATE

Our website has been adjusted and isn’t blocking some IP addresses any more and hopefully everyone can access the site. Please let me know if you are still having trouble. DEMONSTRATION TOMORROW, TUESDAY, 1st MAY. Looking forward to having a full house at the Coach House tomorrow for Kathy Karas’s demonstration on the varied uses of metallics. Come along and learn new techniques, be inspired and meet new friends. Stay after the demonstration and have afternoon tea all included in the entry price of – Members $10     Visitors    $15 OLD FIRE STATION EXHIBITION , THURSDAY 3rd MAY. This exhibition is a follow- up to the workshop held 2nd – 3rd November last year with renowned artist, Peter Griffen. The participating artists have taken what they learnt from the 2 days with Peter and produced works for this exhibition. Peter will be exhibiting 2 paintings himself and will open the exhibition on Friday evening. Come along for the opening at 6pm for wine and nibbles and view this interesting body of work. WORKSHOP 8th & 9th JULY:  Watercolour with Chan Dissanayake Title: Capturing Mood and Atmosphere in Watercolour Level:  Intermediate to Advanced Workshop Information This 2 day workshop will suit students who have been exposed to the medium of watercolour and want to extend their knowledge to the next level. We will specifically concentrate on how to inject and capture the mood of the subject. The truly magical qualities of watercolour can best be demonstrated in portraying atmospheric effects such as mist, rain and fog. PRESIDENT’S REPORT:

  Committee on Opening Night Ray Teasdale, Helen Pain, Robyn McMillan, Doreen Teasdale, Heather Netherclift, Karen Wright, Judy White The Annual Exhibition has been a great success. Congratulations to all award winners. Kiama Art Society members were recipients of 19 of the allocated 38 awards. Opening night was attended by 177 artists and visitors who enjoyed an evening of catching up and discussion. About 900 people visited the exhibition and 25 paintings were sold. Of the 144 artists who entered, 71 were members of the Art Society . We have received many favourable comments, by phone and email, praising the high standard of works entered in the exhibition. The committee would like to thank all members who generously gave their time to assist during set-up and the week of the exhibition. The dates for next year’s exhibition are 26th August to 3rd September, 2017. The Annual Exhibition is an integral event on the Kiama calendar and takes place because of the support given by the Kiama Leagues Club, Kiama Council and 25 other Sponsors who were acknowledged in the previous newsletter. COUNTDOWN TO THE EXHIBITION:

The lead-up to the exhibition has been a very busy time for the AnEx Committee as all is put in readiness for another excellent exhibition. Judy has secured all our wonderful sponsors, Ray has completed the catalogue and it’s at the printers. Bump-in Registers and signs are being prepared all in readiness for WEDNESDAY, 10th AUGUST. Thank you to all who entered their paintings and we have a grand total of 387 to be hung. A special  thank you to those who have volunteered to help on Bump-in day. We need your assistance to ensure it runs efficiently and the paintings can be hung ready for judging on Thursday. We would love to have some gentlemen to help with the hanging, lifting the paintings, climbing the ladder etc. REMEMBER:    8.30am – VOLUNTEERS to the Leagues Club Main Entrance. Volunteers’ entries to be processed before 10.00am when doors open for all entries. 10.00 to 12 noon – Bump-in.    Please ensure you have all your information on a label on the back of each painting and they are the correct size.  Thank you to those members who have promptly returned their raffle ticket money. You can hand it in any time over the exhibition as it will be drawn immediately we close on Sunday 21st.  OPENING NIGHT FRIDAY 12th AUGUST 6.00pm.
