TUESDAY, 1st AUGUST:

HOLLY  EVA  GAY – DEMONSTRATION

Come and join Holly at the Coach House for an afternoon of inspiration.

Holly is a modern expressionist painter from Wollongong.

” I paint as if I’m seeing things for the first time. I lose myself in my imagination and escape to a place where I feel free. On goes the paint, rich in colour, twisting and turning in all directions, wiping, pressing, stamping, layering, drawing, writing words and smudging them out.”

Demonstration begins at 1.00pm so please be seated before then and stay  for afternoon tea and a chat at the conclusion of the demonstration.

MEMBERS : $10        VISITORS :  $15

 TUESDAY, 5th SEPTEMBER

JAMIE COLE    DEMONSTRATION.

In my demonstration for Kiama Art Society I will be working on a mixed media piece that will be part of my next solo show. The exhibition will explore body art and the current surge and popularity of tattoos.

To create this series of work I have photographed the body art of friends and acquaintances. Working from the photographs I then complete a series of sketches and play with the composition until I am happy and come up with a final basic design for the painting.

The colours of the tattoo or the type of image portrayed will make up the colour in the painting. The design is an interpretation of the tattoo design and not a literal copy of the tattoo. Some artistic licence will definitely be employed.

The paintings will be quite large in scale, approx. 1000mm x 1000mm. They will be painted and drawn on to either a stark white or stark black canvas.

The main image of the painting will not be centred but possibly emerge from a corner of the canvas. In my demonstration I will show how I will achieve a concentration of bold colour, created through a build up of acrylic washes, solid colour, collage and possible use of gold/silver/foil leaf.

By outlining with black or white paint over the bold coloured section I will show you how through the use of hard edge the original drawing or design of the tattoo will be brought back to life.  Emerging from the chaos of colour and mixed media.

The reminder of the image will fade into the canvas through further washes of colour or some pencil or watercolour sketching to complete the final composition.

The final stage of creating these bold acrylic & mixed media pieces is to coat the work in a clear glaze. This binds the mixed media and provides a protective coat to the finished artwork.
