Another year came to a close with our Christmas get together on Wednesday 16th December. It was with sadness we said goodbye to one of our long-standing committee members, Lesley Hetherington. Over the years Lesley has quietly and staunchly supported the Art Society, promoting the printing group, always ready to assist with exhibitions and functions and she was an invaluable source of help in establishing and updating the camera system as our technical officer.
A special lady indeed and we will miss her. We all wish Lesley all the best in her new venture.
Each year the committee evaluates the activities available to our members, as to how we can streamline our activities. I would like to make members aware of the organisation that goes into our workshops and I’d like to stress that it is so important that confirmation and payment be made at the time scheduled.
1. The artist engaged is booked months ahead.
2. Definite numbers are required to fill a workshop to cover costs.
3. Booking of appropriate accommodation required for the workshop depending on numbers.
4. Reminding and contacting participants on a repeat basis has become time- consuming for the organiser. Once you receive confirmation of your booking, it is the participant’s responsibility to acknowledge confirmation and forward payment by the dates stated on the form.
5. Check your equipment list for the workshop and come prepared.
We do understand unforeseen circumstances can occur however.
We endeavour to maintain the standard of our visiting artists and exhibitions and have appreciated the attendance and participation of members.
If you know of a member who is not receiving the newsletter, please let us know. Our transition this year to technology has been a big step and Doreen has done an exceptional job as has Robyn with our Facebook page.
Ray has kept our finances overall in the black.
Helen and Jeni have continued to recruit high quality artists for our demonstrations and workshops, and Heather has organised our Old Fire Station Exhibitions and Art in the Park with her usual expertise.
The committee wishes everyone a safe and happy relaxing holiday season and looking forward to another “paintingly” good year. Judy White
